The significant differences and particular benefits of “Voluntary Chinese Teachers and TAs in London Scheme”, which are very much appreciated by schools:
* The Scheme is funded and is officially approved by the China Provincial Educational Bureau, and will be delivered to UK schools via the Chinese Overseas Movement of Advanced Culture (COMAC).
* COMAC Teachers will not be expensive for the schools involved. The Chinese Voluntary Teachers and TAs' living cost in the UK is funded. The organisation (i.e. the individual schools) who invited the Teachers and TAs will provide the cost of accommodation, administration, medical insurance if applicable, travel costs within the UK and additional voluntary expenses for additional hours.
* COMAC Teachers will be more flexible and offer the schools sustainability. COMAC will arrange the application of UK entry visas. The arrangement for the voluntary working hours is a maximum of 22 hours per week, the additional working hours will be covered by voluntary expenses. The voluntary working period is for a minimum of 1-year and can be renewed according to the agreement and the emigration rules requirements.
* COMAC Teachers will be better qualified. All teachers are “Certified Chinese Teacher for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language”. They are certified by the official certification body, "The Office of Chinese Language Council International" in China. Some of the teachers are BA degree graduates in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, which is a 3-year course at the China Institute of Education. (This is called the “Normal University” in China), and all TAs are qualified as “Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language” teachers.
* COMAC Teachers will be better prepared to work in a London school. All teachers and TAs will be required to have CRB checks and will be asked to provide an equivalent Criminal Records Check within China. COMAC will also provide training (in conjunction with UK MFL professionals) to ensure that COMAC teachers will have a good understanding of the UK educational system and be able to use successful classroom management techniques. This will help to create a positive environment where learning can take place.
* COMAC Teachers will be interviewed in China by COMAC and the MFL professionals from London schools.
* COMAC is the official UK partner organisation of the China Educational Bureau and is responsible for the content and quality control of the Mandarin Chinese classes within UK schools.
