Q: Are you planning to, or would like to introduce Mandarin Chinese into your school? But will you feel unprepared due to a lack of resources and guidance?
A: The Funded "Voluntary Chinese Teachers in London Scheme", can provide the answer & make it easier for you.
If your school proves eligible to participate in the scheme, it is an ideal platform for your introduction to Mandarin Chinese. The initial launch date is Sept 2007 for London, and then it expands nationwide in 2008. It is facilitated and administered by The Chinese Overseas Movement of Advanced Culture (COMAC).
Voluntary Chinese Teachers Qualification:
The teachers are “Certified Teacher for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language”. The official certification body is ‘The Office of Chinese Language Council International’ in China. The teachers have volunteered to help the UK introduce Chinese language as a standard class.
Who is COMAC?
The Chinese Overseas Movement of Advanced Culture (COMAC) is a non-governmental charitable organisation based in London, UK. It aims to open the world to China and enable a greater understanding of each other's culture and environments by providing participants with professional development through skills sharing, and encouraging the development of networks between participants
COMAC is the official partner and representative of the China Educational Bureau in the UK and has raised funds for the Voluntary Chinese Teachers in London scheme.
COMAC's role:
As mentioned, COMAC is facilitating and administrating the scheme within the UK, this includes:
-- visas applications
-- administrative management of the teachers
-- training for teachers’ professional development internationally
-- arranging accommodation
-- standard teaching materials preparation
-- lessons' content and quality control
-- organising Chinese culture lessons and activities
-- establishing partnerships and links between participating English and ---Chinese schools.
The cost to the schools:
The teaching hours of one teacher is a maximum of 22 hrs p/week and can be shared by 3-5 London primary and secondary schools. COMAC will oversee and regulate the teachers in all participating London schools. The period that the teachers will teach in your school is a minimum of 1 year and can be renewed if both school and teacher are in agreement.
The teachers' living costs in the UK is funded. The cost for the accommodation* and administration is appx £200 p/mth per school or less if one teacher is shared by 3 schools or more, this cost will be supplied by the schools and managed by COMAC.
The recruitment and training in China for the 2007 Voluntary Chinese Teachers in London is underway, please contact COMAC URGENTLY and ASAP for registration and if your school is interested in starting or continuing Mandarin Chinese in September 2007. Placements are limited and we operate on a list system.
